My Name and Username

I’m doing a little series where I explain the name and username of each of my accounts, so here is the post for my zhiridge account!

Zhilan (芝兰) comes from my search for a Chinese name with a transliteration starting with “Z”; the previous name my sister and I had used for our accounts was Zyanya but I decided to change it to a name that better represents our Chinese heritage; I chose Zhilan because of its flowery meaning and I also like how it’s used in the idiom “芝兰之室,” which according to Yabla means “in wealthy and pleasant company” and I do consider time with my sister as time with “pleasant company” and at least “wealthy” in the sense that I always learn a lot from any time spent with her

Ridge comes from the name I use for my Darcy Ridge account and originally came from advice from my father for an author name

Zhiridge comes from combining the “Zhi” in “Zhilan” with “Ridge” and the fact our previous username had been “zya_ridge” from the first three letters of “Zyanya” and “Ridge”
